Fiber
Optics Accessories
BUNTON INSTRUMENT CO., INC. has a long history of developing and building special accessories for use with microscopes. We built the first Ploem illuminator in America back in the 1960’s….before E. Leitz offered it for sale on the Ortholux!
Here are some special items that may come in handy for your work and make things easier and more efficient. We accept credit cards and PayPal.
NEW FROM VOLPI SWITZERLAND….
LED MICROSCOPE LAMP |

Here is the newest item for microscopy. The LED is gradually replacing incandescent bulbs and even fluorescent lamps in some cases. The intensities are not as great as a 150W fiber optic lamp but with today’s digital cameras and automatic white balancing, that is not a major issue any longer.
Here you will see the compact size of this metal housing with 12V DC input. Expected lifetime is 50,000 or more hours…compare that to typical reflector bulbs lasting 100-200 hours at $20.00 a “pop”! This unit with a light guide is under $1,200.00 and offers a very uniform beam of white light for imaging purposes…no hotspot from a filament! It is also DC so you can use it inside of a Farraday cage or with workstations sensitive to AC signals. Includes an RS232 PC interface and manual LED (what else?) push button intensity control. Motic now has microscopes with built-in LED lighting and we also offer a full line of LED ringlights, backlights and point sources. This is the next big development for microscopy illumination and Bunton has the leading edge products available…call us.
CONVERT YOUR MICROSCOPE FOR LED TRANSMITTED LIGHT FLUORESCENCE STUDIES – FRAEN |
Here you will see a 30-year old Leitz Orthoplan along with the new FRAEN LED module. The yellow cube on top of the LED module aperture is used to illustrate the very uniform excitation beam as it enters the substage brightfield condenser. Here we use the existing condenser. Clearance between the dust window and the bottom of the condenser should be at least 40mm with the condenser set to Koehler and a slide in focus on the stage.
In the case of older Leitz microscopes, we make an adapter that secures the LED module in the dust window aperture and then held in place with the original lock-down bolt that comes with the microscope. No alignment, no problems. Just plug in the LED module to the electronic control unit (fixed or variable) and you are doing transmitted light fluorescence with long-life, efficient and homogenous LED illuminator. Put older microscopes to a new task or adapt your special support stand with this module and safely excite GFP for live organisms. |

REPLACEMENT LIGHT BULBS FOR MOST MODERN MICROSCOPE MAKES
|
|
We
stock just about every bulb made for use in Leitz and Wild microscopes.
We also have a full line of replacement light bulbs for most
modern student, laboratory and research microscopes as well
as reflector bulbs for fiber optic illuminators. We can honor
any University or government purchase order (minimum order is
$100.00) and are happy to quote quantity discounts for six (6)
or more bulbs/three (3) or more mercury/xenon arc lamps. E-mail micro3d@comcast.net
with your microscope make/model plus lamp voltage and wattage requirements.
Look for the ANSI three letter code on your reflector bulb for
fiber optic illuminator (i.e., "DDL", "EKE")
and we can quote you a catalog number and price. |
| We
have a good selection of new and used RMS 160/45 objectives
from Russia, China and Germany. All objectives are strictly
for use in transmitted light...including special Lomo objectives
for strain-free polarized light studies. E-mail your specific

DARKFIELD
FOR STEREO/MACROSCOPES
This interesting
item is designed to replace the glass plate on a transillumination
base. It immediately converts the brightfield illumination
to a darkfield illumination scheme. The highly polished conical
mirror and darkfield "stop" will divert and block
out direct rays and bring illumination rays in at very oblique
angles (back lighting). A perfect retrofit for your existing
microscope for GEMSTONES, INSECTS, AQUATICS, BOTANICALS and
many transparent/semi-transparent objects that will benefit
from transmitted light darkfield. This is not to be confused
with incident light darkfield as created with fiber optic
ringlights. Not IRIS control lever in photo on LEFT...for
contrast control of the darkfield. Shown in photo on RIGHT
is the unit in position along with the Optem Zoom 160 macroscope
(16:1). Bunton offers special high intensity darkfield illuminators
complete with fiber optic light source for about $1,500.00.
USA-made fiber optic transilluminators are available for all
model stereo/macroscopes from Bunton. |
