MACROZOOM-FL
Our newest low magnification epifluorescence system with 1:12.5 zoom changer and interchangeable filter cubes for GFP fluorescence studies involving C.elegans, D.melanogaster and D.rerio. Connect a digital camera and view 2D electronic images that would be impossible with a stereo microscope! See our 2D VIDEO MICROSCOPY PAGE. In 1963 we built the first USA-made Ploem illuminator for compound microscopes. Today we offer the finest solution for incident light excitation of fluorochromes in living organisms ranging from nematodes to drosophila..-system prices start at $6500.00 (less camera).

NEW FROM INFINITY PHOTO OPTICAL USA!

INFINIVAR CFM-2

This USA-made optical system features the unique ability to focus in on your sample from 9mm to infinity. It is easily mounted to a conventional support stand, copy stand or tripod mount. Use it to photograph insects or the surface of the moon. The high aperture front lens and internal focus adjustment produces outstanding images for a wide variety of applications. Use it with the latest large format digital cameras, 35mm film cameras, video cameras or single CCD/CMOS C-mount digital cameras. Base price is $2600.00. Optional zoom module, T-mounts, 2X "doubler" and variable "iris" to control DOF and contrast. If you want the finest in optics for the "macro" to "micro" range...INFINIVAR CFM-2 is the system of choice.

Another new product from Infinity Photo Optical in Boulder, Colorado... INFINIPROBE!! This compact, internally focusing instrument is designed for use with any c-mount analog and digital cameras. About 6" in length, INFINIPROBE can be mounted to a tripod, copy stand or any microscope support stand. Focus from about one inch to INFINITY!

Welcome to our website! We specialize in optical microscopes and related digital imaging technology. We have been in the Washington, DC area for over 50 YEARS and represented the microscopes from E. Leitz for most of that time. Please review our USED MICROSCOPE section if you have an interest in these fine German-made microscopes. We have them fully reconditioned and equipped with original Leitz optics, lamps and accessories … from the classic Ortholux I to the Orthoplan and Ergolux ..... contact us if you have questions about current availability.

I would like to mention a few historical items of interest since the history of the optical microscope goes back over 300 years. The E. Leitz firm in Germany introduced the Leica 35mm camera (LEItz-CAmera) around 1925 … soon after that the Leitz “Micro-IBSO” focusing telescope/eyepiece/reduction optic was sold to connect the small format (35mm) precision Leica camera to a microscope …. 80-some years ago! Today, analog film is rarely used in microscopy.

In 1948, Edwin Land introduced “instant film” for consumer and professional photography. Sheet and pack Polaroid film plus instant 35mm slides were all developed in America and easily adapted for use on microscopes. In 2009 the Polaroid firm will stop support and production of their film products.

Today, the digital camera rules. The microscopy sector has welcomed this technology with open arms and there are now hundreds of digital camera choices on the market. Most of the major microscope firms now have their own digital microscopy camera products with specialized software for image capture processing and analysis. Typical resolutions range from 1.3 megapixel up to 20 megapixel. It is important for all microscopists to fully understand the digital imaging process and how to select a camera to meet their needs and budget. We can help you in this regard!

We now offer a full range of digital imaging products for use with optical microscopes. These range from $400.00 1.3MP USB2 connected cameras to our dual camera Retro-Opsis DV system for true stereo 3D microscopy The new DC3-SD (3MP) camera includes a 2” LCD screen and SD flash memory slot with a 256 Mb card for image capture and linear measurements on the live image! They now have 4GB SD cards and even a 2 GB Wi-Fi wireless card for automatic uploads of images to your PC! See Eye.fi.

The insect photo you see on the left was captured in multiple focal planes and then combined into a single image with every single detail in focus! Z-stacking of images is a snap with the right software and we have everything you need to perform this process. Today we can do things with digital that would be difficult, expensive or impossible using film technology.
